Quote of the day.

Pounding hooves, tossing mane,Take me swiftly on my life's journey.Loyal friend, carry me to a place of safety.Lift me over the obstacles of my path

It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

Paul "Bear" Bryant

"There is something about jumping a horse over a fence, somethingthat makes you feel good. perhaps it is the risk,or the gamble. In any event it is a thing I need."

"Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A horse is 'disobedient' in exact proportion to how difficult he finds the task. The trainer's problem is not how to punish the 'disobedience' but to discover *why* the horse finds the task difficult!" --William Hillebrand

"Riding is a dance between horse and rider, the less the rider does the more beatiful the dance"

Fears

well i think we all have fear enter our riding at some point or another. How to deal with it varies so much on how it crept in.When you come out of your fearless 20's and enter the second stage of your life it can be debilitating.A bad wreak watching someone else have one what ever it is it is very hard to crawl out of it.The best thing is it have support. That is key and people you trust around you. Another good thing is a horse you trust. There is no shame in borrowing a kid safe horse to get you confidence back. I have just come through a major fear of cantering. This one was really tuff to break out of when you have a big green horse to ride. What I did was get on some really really well broke quiet horses. I didn't canter my big boy for a long time. You have to ignore the looks and whispers of fellow riders I wasn't ready and pushing it would have just set me back. Now I can canter him but it had to be on my time line not what others thought. First on the lunge then off when I was ready. So if fears have crept in just put your head down and get through it.I don't bounce very well and didn't feel like selling my horse so I borrowed quite ones until I was ready. It is possible to get through it just persevere. You will be a better rider for it.;)
it is the best feeling in the world when you overcome it and get back to your own horse It just makes your heart swell.
