Quote of the day.

Pounding hooves, tossing mane,Take me swiftly on my life's journey.Loyal friend, carry me to a place of safety.Lift me over the obstacles of my path

It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

"Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A horse is 'disobedient' in exact proportion to how difficult he finds the task. The trainer's problem is not how to punish the 'disobedience' but to discover *why* the horse finds the task difficult!" --William Hillebrand

"Riding is a dance between horse and rider, the less the rider does the more beatiful the dance"

Holistic that scary word....

Well we have all done it , felt stupid doing it, and will do it again..There are some many alternative therapies out there how to choose it mind boggling.
I myself use the clicker training approach for me it works wonders. Some, as with anything, go over board and don't actually even ride the dang horse. There is only so much micro managing I want to inflict on my horse. I like the concept and as with anything have updated and use it when I feel the need. Another one I like s well is the TTouch there are some very beneficial exercises which I have used on both my horse with success. All so Dr. Deb she is fantastic too loads of valuable info there as well. It certainly is tough to ward of the looks when applying some of these techniques. I am guilty of being the looker too. I am not sure what it is about the whole thing that makes people do this. It does work loads of people use it but it is still shunned in a lot of circles. I think the problem is when some take it over board mostly beginner horse people. They get that proverbial orange stick come now we have all seen it and groaned..;) The horse tend to be walking all over the owners , rude, pushy, kicking etc... but they believe in the stick.. well with anything there has to be knowledge behind the stick! Having owned one horse as a kid way back when. Then arming yourself with this stick is not going to make you a Horse person capable of training that 17hh stallion. Most end up hurt. There are extremes with all things.
I also think that any one feels they can hang out their trainers plaque because they own a wand and a rope halter..It is dangerous. One friend of mine very green horse owner with yes and green colt sent her horse to a so called ______ certified trainer and what did she get back a mess. The horse is three years old and going to be sold because he is not manageable...So sad he is one of the quietest horse I have ever meet. Now wreaked and is going to need a very experienced horse person to fix all the issues created. The trainer came cheap but in the end it will cost way more to fix...Knowledge an lots of it is how to avoid this and the not so common sense. You can't get to caught up in any one training system take the bits and pieces that work for you and move on. So I will still get looks for clicking my horse which is fine he is kind calm and sane and will not take your head off.;) So do explore but don't let you horse sense get lost in the process.
