Quote of the day.

Pounding hooves, tossing mane,Take me swiftly on my life's journey.Loyal friend, carry me to a place of safety.Lift me over the obstacles of my path

It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

"Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A horse is 'disobedient' in exact proportion to how difficult he finds the task. The trainer's problem is not how to punish the 'disobedience' but to discover *why* the horse finds the task difficult!" --William Hillebrand

"Riding is a dance between horse and rider, the less the rider does the more beatiful the dance"

Using the clicker for higher levels of training.

Okay bear with me here. I first thought this is for people who don't have a clue how to ride a horse.. or have never been around horses. I grew up on a horse farm with a lot of tradition beliefs on feeding horses. The idea of operant conditional training has been around for quite sometime. It takes the anger out of training. You can't beat a whale into submission like i have seen it done with horses. Now this topic is close to home. I became riddled with anxiety from one VERY bad so called coach it was very hard to come back to riding with all that fear. Handling on the ground was not poisoned, but riding was. The levels and or layers you can reach with clicker training is unreal. My horse literally knows what I am thinking and having been rewarded many many times for the correct he offers a little more brilliance every time. Like any training clicker can be done wrong you need to focus on the positive and it is simple in theory but not easy to do correctly. I have seen some people attempt it as a last resort but the belief system of well you should just give it to him with the whip is still there is takes time to change.I suggest the simple exercises first then you can really see how happy your horse becomes and move on up from there.I have a three year old and a six year old horse. The younger one is a filly and she is very strong minded and the clicker was really way to much of an open door for her at first she became pushy and bit of a hag if you will.she was a raw canvas and I was having some trouble getting it right. Now she has come along beautifully and is ready for her riding career. There are several websites on clicker training look it up and just try a few things. That's how I started now I am planning on using the clicker to help my horse along the road to Grand Prix. I have adapted the clicker work to suit my needs and it is working great. Some have systems and ways they use the clicker to achieve their riding goals I chose to use it in my own way which is very possible but It is advisable to get a book or DVD on the subject to get you started then you can chose to follow or take it on your own. happy clicking.
